This is the second day without power September 15th.
When the power went out on Sunday we loaded all our
food up and stored it in the refrigerator at Brents
parents house. They had a spare fridge in
their basement. They were also caring enough
to let us stay the night and take advantage of air
conditioning, food, a stove and lights. So on
the second day the kids and I came home cleaned
things up the best we could, opened windows and hung
out with the neighbors. That evening we had
some dear friends of ours take us all out to dinner
at Applebees. Which was so awesome, we needed
to hang out with friends and cut up to keep our
minds off things and cheer us up. It was awesome and
very thoughtful! We love you all Jeff and
Michele! Brent's parents fed us again the
third night and we had chili, yummy. The
fourth night we were back for roast and carrots, my
favorite. Everything is back up and running now, and
we were very fortunate to be burdened by the smaller
things compared to what soo many others were and are
still faced with. Not all the kids enjoyed camping
out in the back den at our house where there was no
air conditioning or TV. Happy to say they all
survived. :) |

After the winds died down we went driving and headed
towards the westend and checked out their storm
damage. This is one of the routes Brent takes
to work, they also had a significant amount of
damage. The number of businesses that were
closed due to the power outage was amazing!
The lines at the few gas stations that were opened
were lined up all the way into the highway with
employees trying to direct traffic and keep things
moving. It was like nothing we had ever seen |

September 14th, 2008. One street over from us and
some of the wind damage they suffered as well.
I was amazed at the amount of trees broken and down.
There were power lines everywhere we had to be
careful during the days ahead with letting the kids
out to play. With no power for almost a week
the kids were bored and hot so we spent as much time
outside as possible. |

September 14, 2008. Another tree twisted by the
winds, they ended up taking this whole tree down.
This is one of the many telephone poles that were
taken down by the winds, they had power lines strung
out everywhere. |

One of the all too familiar scenes around the
neighborhood. You cant see them from the
picture on the right but this tree was tangled up in
numerous power lines |

September 14th 2008. This is what we came home
to after church this windy Sunday afternoon.
We sat in church service only to have the church
lights go out on us. We continued with service
and all the kiddos thought it was really cool.
We went outside after services ended and the church
had power lines down. Fortunately the fire
department from next door blocked the area off for
us so no one entered or exited that way. The
pictures above are of a vacant house down the street
from us shortly after the winds died down. We
heard them cutting the branches from the middle of
the road, even now it is not a completely clear
path. |

September 14th 2008. This poor family.
They lost the whole side and back of their home, I
got to see it the next day after they had the tree
removed. It was devestating. |
